I. First Year and Advanced Level

The Paris doctorate that is validated within the EDP is the " doctorat de l’Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales ". The Ecole Nationale de la Statistique et de l’Administration Economique, as a partner institution in Paris, plays an important role at the preliminary year – see below – and at the advanced year (in the reception of students coming from other institutions to Paris and on the organization of second year courses).

The preliminary year of the program leading to the Diplôme d’Etudes Approfondies (DEA) that is delivered by the formation doctorale " Analyse et Politique Economiques " (jointly organized by EHESS, ENSAE, ENS, Ecole Polytechnique) is open to students having a degree equivalent to the French " maîtrise de sciences économiques ". The degree " Diplôme d’Etudes Approfondies " (DEA) is normally obtained at the end of this preliminary year. Students having successfully passed the DEA examinations are considered for admission at the advanced level of the European Doctoral Program. Students from Bonn, London, Louvain, Barcelona, admitted at the advanced level of the European Doctoral Program, are admitted at their demand, at the advanced level of EHESS, either when coming for a temporary stay or for completing the doctorate in EHESS. In the latter case they have to find a dissertation director. In the former case they are assigned a director who will act as an advisor and a corrrespondent. In general during their stay, those students from abroad will be provided a desk at one of the research centers associated with the doctoral formation, and more specially at DELTA and at CREST (ENSAE). (see below). Second year students are requested to attend 3 courses or seminars chosen in the list given below. At the end of the second year, a thesis committee examines the state of advance of the doctoral work and the fulfillment of requirements.
